Worldsend Music – Adelaide Fringe 2013

You would have to be living under a rather large, uncomfortable rock not to know that things are happening within the Adelaide music scene. Great things. Impeccable things. Every week there are more and more sounds rearing their musical heads from little nooks all over the state. In support of this talent there are some glorious initiatives, bringing this festival state to life musically - eat your heart out Melbourne. Tucked away in a humble existence at the mellower end of Hindley street, cue in Worldsend specialising in its unconditional love and support of local talent. The third oldest hotel in Adelaide, Worldsend has managed to pull together an extraordinary line up to slide in to the festivities of March. 18 months in the making, Worldsend bring us the launch of the very first 5-week program that showcases over 60 of Adelaide’s best local bands throughout the 2013 Fringe.

With over 15 shows during Fringe, this initiative strives to showcase some of the sensational talent we have at our doorsteps and broaden the music community.

From reggae-infused jiggles, to folk, rock, punk and even some metal business 'all up in there' for the meatheads. There really is something for every man and his dog. Don’t take that literally. I think you should leave your dogs at home. Thanks.

In particular, one evening at Worldsend takes my eyelids hostage with a stellar line up. Entitled “Rising Sun Music Festival”, and featuring some of Adelaide’s most glorious summer sounds, it includes reggae favourites Irie Knights and Babylon Burning, sexy songstress Abbey Howlet and the folky wolf-pack that is taking the city by storm, Timberwolf.

Traditionally Worldsend has been a classic location for the university crowd as they indulge in roadside should-be-in-class-right-now ciders, but with this program, the venue is stepping it up a notch and diving headfirst into oceans of festival madness.

Worldsend’s music program coordinator Mark Turner is excited by this year’s line-up - just as he should be. “We have one of the strongest, most concentrated line-ups over a month-long period that any music venue in Adelaide has showcased. There truly is something for everyone.” This passionate character is among those few extraordinary humans that strive to make this city ‘heaps good’. “With so much talk about the state of the Adelaide Music scene I believe we have created a program which showcases a diverse range of our finest established and upcoming talent. We have so much talent in Adelaide & this program highlights that fact”. Well played Mark Turner.

For all the tight-walleted, I have some excellent news to share too; tickets range from free all the way up to $10. So you really don’t have an excuse not to get your voluptuous gluteus maximus there quick smart!
