Melbourne Sold Out, New Show Announced
Adapted from Media Release: As Katie Noonan and her jazz trio of 14 years Elixir prepare to launch into their national ‘Snapshot’ tour, tickets are selling fast. News just in is that their Feb 24th performance @ The Famous Spiegeltent in Melbourne HAS COMPLETELY SOLD OUT and a new Melbourne show has been announced for Thu Feb 23rd @ The Regal Ballroom.
Tickets for the 2nd show are available now from www.regalballroom.com.au but are also moving extremely fast so, as with all other shows on the tour, punters are advised to get in quick to avoid disappointment.
Elixir’s Central Coast show Thu Feb 2nd @ Lizottes has also completely sold out.
The second album by Elixir, “First Seed Ripening” was released in August of last year. Debuting at #1 on the ARIA Jazz charts where it spent 9 weeks, the album then went on to take out the 2011 ARIA Award (Jazz category). The response in press was similarly enthusiastic:
“like a samurai sword through silk....this enchanting, honest, intimate album can’t fail” – The Mercury
“weaves an intensely musical reverie” – Limelight
“Serenely ethereal” – The Australian
“The album's 14 songs have a seductive pull, helped along by a Nick Drake-level tranquility and, naturally, our heroine's effortless vocal style” - Rave Magazine
“filled with enchantment...Noonan’s voice, bare and beautiful against husband Zac Hurren’s intimate soprano sax and Stephen Magnusson’s expert jazz guitar, shines like a midnight star” – Sunday Herald Sun
“a moving, magnificent album” - Gold Coast Bulletin
Reflective, brooding and hauntingly beautiful, Elixir is Noonan, her saxophonist husband Zac Hurren (winner of the National Jazz Award 2009) and Stephen Magnusson, regarded by many as Australia's finest jazz guitarist (winner of the National Jazz Award 2000). Their self-titled first album became a top 20 best-seller upon its release in 2003, and Melbourne-based Magnusson joined the band in 2005.
'First Seed Ripening' is largely inspired by the words of legendary Australian poet Thomas Shapcott but also feature's inspired covers (or ‘tributes’ as Katie refers to them) of artists such as Joni Mitchell, Radiohead and Split Enz. Live, the band have been known to throw all manner of ‘tributes' into the mix.
After launching the album across the country throughout September / October 2011, Elixir’s second national run off the back off “First Seed Ripening” begins this month:
