David Harrowers Blackbird opened at the Space Theatre in Adelaide in October 2010. The following is an Interview between the director David Mealor, of Flying Penguin Productions and Paul Rodda and Nicole Russo of The Barefoot Review.
Paul talks with David about Flying Penguin productions, coming over from Brink, creating an actors company and growing their craft. Paul asks about the choice of Blackbird as a production, David discusses the show, and his desire to help actors to work outside the box. Nicole asks about the challenging content in Blackbird and the audition process and David tells us about the rehearsal process so far. Paul asks David what the show is really about, David speaks about the moral issues involved, how it makes him feel, and how he predicts audiences may respond. Nicole asks about the complex issues in the play and its interpretation, David talks about creating discourse, meaning and style and his feelings on the text and its underlying story. Wrapping up on Blackbird Paul asks David about the pressures associated with producing an award winning show.
